Whitfield Tabernacle Trust

Having reviewed the responses to our residents’ survey asking ‘What would you like to see in Kingswood’s Newest, Oldest Building’, the Whitfield Tabernacle Trustees are pleased to see that the activities that featured in our recently presented Business Plan were also the activities that local residents seemed most interested in.  The survey was distributed at several street events, and hand- delivered to households around the Tabernacle building in Park Road.  Responses were either given at the street events, or returned via a collection box in Kingswood library. We were pleased that some people even went to the trouble of posting their responses to our Trust office.

Residents were asked to rank ten suggested activities, and given space to indicate any use of the building that hadn’t been suggested. The provision of a café and music performances of various types were the clear favourites amongst the responses, but film screenings and plays were also very popular choices.  In addition to the ten suggested activities, residents mentioned a further 25; but many of these could have been included under one of the original ten headings.

Trustees were surprised that the staging of comedy nights didn’t appear as popular as we had expected, based on conversations we’d had with people coming into the Tabernacle during our drop-in sessions’.

We can’t be sure what will work when the building is ready to serve Kingswood again, but it looks as if all the work done to plan a financially stable future for the Tabernacle has been in line with what the Kingswood community wants.

DOWNEND WI

OUR latest meeting of a fabulous year so far had an interesting talk from Liz Ferguson about her ‘Remember Me’ project.

Liz researched all the soldiers whose names are on Hambrook war memorial.  She has also collected many items from World War I and II.

The October meeting on the 28th will be our AGM. We will also be enjoying a talk from our chosen charity.

In November we will be making Christmas wreaths.

We meet at Christ Church Hall in North Street, Downend, on the last Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.

Guests are welcome for a small charge of £5, which includes tea or coffee.

We’d love to see you – we are a really friendly bunch!

As a member, you can participate in as much or as little as you wish within our varied programme throughout the year.

It’s a chance to meet new people and experience new things, so if you would like to know more, please contact us via our email address downendwi@yahoo.co.uk
