It’s a ride to remember for team

WHEN a team of cyclists, including two of her former teachers and her dad, crossed the finish line at Roker beach near Sunderland after a marathon ride, Elodie Gray was the first to greet them.

Elodie, 11, from Kingswood, received a heart transplant in Newcastle in 2014, when she was seven months old.

She and her family have been raising awareness of the organ transplant ever since. The cycle ride, 175 miles from Whitehaven in the North West to the North East coast, was in aid of the Red Sky Foundation, which supports children who need cardiac care and their families.

Elodie was there with mum Sarah, sister Freya and brother Austin when dad Colin and team mates completed the Coast to Coast Challenge.

Also among the 15 riders from the Bristol area were two teachers from Beacon Rise Primary School, Luke Speirs and Ross Lee. Both taught Elodie before she moved on to Culverhill School.

The ride took place at the end of Organ Donation Week.
