The Kingswood-based charity Jessie May has launched an urgent appeal to fill a funding gap.
The charity, which provides hospice at home services for children and families across the region, says it is facing a £300,000 shortfall.
This puts at risk its care for 52 seriously ill children in Bristol – and 196 across the South West.
Jessie May, in common with other charities in the hospice sector, has been hit by the rising cost of care, lack of government subsidy and legislative changes, such as the employer National Insurance contribution. Only 18per cent of its income is from government sources,
The charity has started a Your Community Needs You campaign to bring in more funds. CEO Daniel Cheesman said: “We’ve made every effort to make savings where we can, but we do not want to cut services to the families who desperately need us.
“If everyone in Bristol donated just £1 we’d meet our target.”
