The community at Courtney Primary School has been saddened to learn that Cyril Rice, their lollipop man for 21 years, has died after a short illness.
A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Council’s road safety team said: “Cyril helped generations of children and families cross safely and, during his time on patrol, he witnessed many children grow, develop, and achieve milestones throughout their school journey.
“He took great pride in his role and very much valued being part of the school community, which included dressing up each year as Father Christmas, bringing smiles and joy to all.
Debby, from the team, made a special teddy bear gift from Cyril’s uniform which was presented to his family.
