Mail backlog ‘cleared’

Kingswood residents have been complaining of delays to their parcels of up to several weeksdue to staff shortages.

Writing on Facebook, several customers mentioned that packages they were waiting for from the Kingswood depot had been transferred to the Keynsham depot, despite that being much further from their homes. Other customers commented that parcels they were waiting for were up to four weeks late.

One person who had been to the Kingswood delivery office to try and claim a parcel wrote: “If you are currently awaiting a parcel from the Royal Mail and have not received it when you were expecting to, you are not alone. Myself and many other others were at the delivery office this morning to be informed that there is a pile of parcels in excess of 7,000 waiting to be delivered. It is now getting to the point where some of these parcels are being sent back.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson told Kingswood Voice: “Kingswood Delivery Office recently experienced some short-term resourcing pressures, including staff sickness. We would reassure customers that any delayed items have now been cleared, with the team now focused on delivering the most recently received mail. We remain focused on providing customers in Kingswood with a reliable service.”

However, despite this Royal Mail response from Royal Mail, social media complaints continue.  Commenters are largely supportive of individual postal delivery workers, acknowledging that the staff were overstretched and under-resourced.
