VISITORS to Grimsbury Farm have been getting to know some new arrivals.
Alpacas Belle, Levana and Luna and ponies Rain and Bonnie have joined the goats, pigs, sheep, cows, ducks, geese, guinea pigs and rabbits at the farm, which has now been formally taken over by Brandon Trust.
A spokesperson for the trust said: “We’ve been incredibly grateful for the warm welcome, community interest and support we’ve received since taking over the farm. It’s been wonderful to see so many visitors returning and discovering all that the farm has to offer.”
The charity has been working to improve the site, creating a new spacious aviary and revamping some of the small animal enclosures at the free attraction, which is open daily for visitors.
“Grimsbury Farm is about much more than animals and visitor experiences. The site provides opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autistic people to gain skills, confidence and meaningful work experience,” the spokesperson added.
South Gloucestershire Council sought a partner to take on the farm because it could no longer fund it.
Councillor Alison Evans said the formal reopening was fantastic for Grimsbury Farm and for the community.
“We were absolutely determined to keep this much-loved local asset open and find a viable future for it.
“Grimsbury Farm has a strong future ahead, delivering benefits for local families, local schools and some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” she said.
