Bridge closer to opening

NATIONAL Highways says it expects to be able to announce an opening date for the Badminton Road bridge over the M4 in the next few weeks.

Contractors have been working on the earthworks connecting the bridge, which will carry the A432 across the motorway between Downend and Winterbourne, to the embankment.

They will then move on to lighting, traffic signals, crossing points and surfacing, before the bridge is connected to the A432 next to the Wick Wick roundabout, where there were overnight lane closures during April as part of the project.

National Highways, which is responsible for the bridge and motorway network, has cancelled a series of overnight closures of the M4 scheduled for April 27-30 and May 26-29.

A spokesperson said: “We are still finalising the remaining closures and the opening date, and will be able to announce this in the next few weeks.”
