Lest We Forget
Remembrance Sunday is observed at many venues across our area on the second Sunday of November, and commemorates all the members of our Armed Forces who have died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I.
The traditional two-minute period of silence will be observed this year on Sunday 8th November, and church services and other ceremonial gatherings will take place during the day. The national two-minute silence will begin at 11:00 am, marked by the firing of guns by the King’s Troop on Horse Guards Parade.
Armistice Day is on Wednesday November 11, commemorating the end of fighting in World War I on that date in 1918.
The two photographs show the Remembrance Services at St James Place in Mangotsfield in 1978 and in 1988. Both photographs are courtesy of the South Gloucestershire Gazette.
