Students and staff at Sir Bernard Lovell Academy in Oldland Common are celebrating a record-breaking year as the Sixth Form achieved the best A-level and Level 3 Applied General results in the school’s history.
An impressive 55% of A Level grades were awarded at A* to B, while the A*-E pass rate was 100%. Applied General qualifications were a particular strength, with students achieving an average grade of Distinction, well above the most recent national benchmarks.
Headteacher Robin Bassford said: ” W are delighted to celebrate our best ever Sixth Form results. As the first cohort to complete their studies in our new Sixth Form centre, our wonderful students have embraced every opportunity that has come their way to contribute to the school community, maximise their personal growth and fulfil their academic potential. It has been a great privilege and joy to work with such an engaging group of young people who have set a new benchmark for success at SBL.”
Year 11 achieved an excellent set of GCSE results, with the vast majority meeting or exceeding their challenging target grades. There are many individual success stories to celebrate, including 24 students achieving at least five grades 7-9, with one exceptional student securing eight grade 9s. The school was pleased to see strong attainment across the broad curriculum, especially in subjects linked to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), alongside impressive outcomes in the creative and performing arts.
This year group will be remembered not only for their academic success but beyond the classroom.
This is exemplified by the exceptional student leadership team and through sporting achievements, including the Girls’ Under-16 County Cup victory and the Boys’ Football Team winning the prestigious Woodcock Shield at Ashton Gate in Year 1
