PEOPLE across the Kingswood area found different ways to watch the biggest solar eclipse over England since 1999.
With the Moon covering 93% of the sun in Bristol on August 12, anyone wanting to see the eclipse needed either a pair of special eclipse glasses – which block out all ultraviolet and infrared light, and more than 99% of visible light – or find a way to watch it indirectly.
Some made pinhole cameras, used special filters on cameras, or tried using colanders to project an image of the sun onto a wall, the ground or a piece of card – with mixed results.
Olivia and Zac Bence, from Kingswood, and family headed to Rodway Common to get a clear view. Nan Sharon Glastonbury said they went there after finding that green space near Cossham Hospital was full of people.
