Longwell Green Sports FC celebrated another hugely successful Her Game Too weekend, drawing hundreds of players, families and supporters to champion inclusion.
Across a packed two-day schedule, 12 teams took part in training sessions and matches, from the U10s right through to the men’s and ladies’ squads. Both adult teams warmed up in Her Game Too T‑shirts, a visual show of solidarity with the campaign. More than 200 players were involved, including many junior players who trained throughout Saturday morning.
The weekend kicked off with a lively junior training session on the 3G pitch, setting the tone for a great day of football. Crowds gathered ahead of the men’s Western League fixture at 3pm, where an impressive 250 spectators gathered to support the team. The day closed with a spirited U11 v U10 girls’ match under the floodlights at 5.15pm.
Sunday continued the momentum, beginning with junior matches and building up to the U12 girls’ cup match at 12.15pm. The weekend concluded with the ladies’ first team match at 2pm, cheered on by around 40 supporters who brought great atmosphere to the touchline.
The event also welcomed Skye Smit of the Gloucestershire FA, who was on hand to highlight grassroots opportunities for women and girls.
Organisers said interest this year event surpassed expectations. The club hopes to secure involvement from Bristol City and Bristol Rovers to support next year’s event.
