Plans unveiled to transform eyesore site

DETAILED plans have been put forward for the redevelopment of the old Lucas works in Kingswood.

The scheme for the four acre site, sits between Moravian Road to the west, Hanham Road to the east, and Bright Street to the north, is now for 80 homes rather than the 140 that were originally planned.

These would be part of a mixed-use development, including employment opportunities in repurposed shipping containers as well as a shop and a cafe.

The plans also include  159 parking spaces and 73 new trees. Instead of demolishing all the derelict buildings on the site, the idea now is to convert some of them.

The developers say:  “For many years, the former Lucas Ingredients site has represented a visual and functional blight within the Kingswood urban fabric.

“The vacant and underused industrial buildings, extensive areas of hardstanding, and poor-quality boundary treatments have contributed little to the local townscape or community.

“This proposal presents a valuable opportunity to reverse that decline — transforming an eyesore into a vibrant, mixed-use environment that contributes positively to Kingswood’s regeneration objectives.

“Through sensitive reuse, improved public realm, and sustainable design, the scheme will restore activity, employment, and visual quality to a long-neglected site, supporting [South Gloucestershire]  council’s ambitions for the wider revitalisation of Moravian Road and the Kingswood town centre fringe.”

The scheme is on the South Glos planning site, reference P25/02361/=
