The first Community Wassail at Magpie Bottom proved a huge success, drawing a large crowd.
Wassailing is a traditional ceremony held in orchards, where people come together to bless apple trees, give thanks for the previous year’s fruit and make an offering, in the form of slices of toast, to encourage a good harvest later in the year. The idea is to wake the trees from their winter sleep and scare away evil spirits.
