A FORMER policeman relived his past with the help of Avon & Somerset Constabulary.
Staff at Kingswood Court care home arranged for local police officers to visit resident George Headley, who served in the force from 1954-1987.
During his service, George was awarded a medal for outstanding police service in connection to a house fire and he wore it proudly while sharing stories with the officers, before he was ‘escorted’ to the police station travelling in the police car, accompanied by his grand-daughter Stephanie.
George’s grand-daughter Stephanie said: “To see the joy on my grandad’s face was truly magical. His career in the police force was a big part of his life and something I have always admired him for. To see him step back into the station and take a trip down memory lane was fantastic. He greeted everyone in the Police Station as though he’d never retired from the force. It was such a beautiful thing to see!”
Mathan Balasubramanyan, general manager at Kingswood Court, where George has lived for two years, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing. We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.
“It was wonderful to see how happy George was – and the staff loved being a part of this as
well.”
